Frequently Asked Questions

  • We are proud to use the Candela GentleMax Pro! The Gentle Pro Series lasers are gold standard devices for laser hair removal. Offering high speed performance, ease of use, and high patient satisfaction, the Gentle Pro Series leverages both Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) wavelength technologies to efficiently treat a wide range of skin types and hair colours. The Nd:YAG laser has a longer wavelength, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin and target melanin in hair follicles. This makes it suitable for darker skin types and coarser hair. The absorbed heat damages the hair follicles responsible for hair growth without affecting the surrounding skin. This process impedes the follicles' ability to produce new hair. To enhance patient comfort and protect the skin, the Gentle Pro Series incorporates cooling technology. The proprietary Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), sprays a cooling burst of cryogen onto the skin with each laser pulse. The Alexandrite laser wavelength is ideal for lighter skin tones, as it has high melanin absorption.

  • Laser hair removal is a safe and reliable method for permanently reducing unwanted hair on both the face and body. It works through a process called selective photothermolysis. A specially calibrated laser emits a precise beam of light, which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicles. This light is converted into heat, which destroys the follicle, preventing any future hair growth.

  • Typically, most people require between 6 to 12 sessions for long-lasting hair reduction. However, the exact number can vary depending on individual factors, including hormonal changes. Results can differ from person to person. To maintain smooth, hair-free skin, occasional top-up sessions (1 or 2 per year) may be needed to target any remaining stray hairs.

  • We advise leaving 8 to 12 weeks between each treatment. This is because laser hair removal targets hairs in the growth phase, which are still attached to the follicle. As most hairs will be in a resting phase and not attached to the follicle during treatment, spacing sessions by around 8 to 12 weeks ensures that all hairs in the treatment area will be targeted when they enter the growth phase.

  • Laser hair removal can provide long-term hair reduction, but it isn't always permanent for everyone. The treatment targets hair follicles with light energy, which damages them and reduces the ability to grow hair. Over time, most people experience a significant reduction in hair growth, but it's common for some fine or lighter hairs to eventually regrow. For permanent results, a series of treatments (usually about 6-8 sessions) are typically needed, and maintenance sessions every 6-12 months might be required for some people. The effectiveness can also depend on factors like skin type, hair colour, and the area being treated. So, while it’s not guaranteed to be 100% permanent, it can dramatically reduce hair growth and make it much less noticeable.

  • The Gentle Pro lasers work by targeting the hair follicles with pulses of intense light energy, effectively destroying them without harming the surrounding skin. To protect the epidermis, the Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) sprays a cryogen coolant over the treatment area before each laser pulse. This cooling system offers more than 50% greater protection than contact or air cooling, and can be adjusted for maximum comfort. Most clients report a sensation similar to a warm ‘elastic band snap’ during treatment—it's a strange feeling but not usually painful. After the session, the treated area may feel warm or slightly tender, so we recommend applying Aloe Vera Gel for 48 hours to soothe the skin.

  • Yes, our laser is suitable for all skin types. We customise the settings for each client to ensure the best and safest results. The GentleMax Pro uses two advanced wavelengths—Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm)—to effectively treat a wide range of skin tones and hair colours, including darker skin types.

  • Laser hair removal is most effective on darker hair colours, as these contain more melanin, which absorbs the laser energy more efficiently. For lighter hair types—such as white, blonde, red, or grey—the treatment may be less effective. These hairs have less melanin, meaning less heat is absorbed, and as a result, we cannot guarantee the same level of follicle destruction.

  • To ensure safety and effectiveness, we advise waiting at least 4 weeks after sun exposure, such as a sun holiday or sunbed, before having laser treatment. This is to avoid the risk of the laser causing skin damage. Additionally, you should avoid using fake tan on the treatment area for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • No, laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy, as hormonal changes can affect the treatment’s effectiveness. It’s best to wait at least 3 months after giving birth and 3 months after breastfeeding to allow your hormones to regulate before having any treatments.

  • If you are taking photosensitive medication, we cannot carry out laser treatment. In some cases, we may require written consent from your GP before proceeding with the treatment. It’s important to inform us of any medical conditions or medications you’re taking during your consultation to ensure the treatment is safe for you.

  • You must be 18+ for laser hair removal.

  • For insurance purposes, we are required to take before and after photos for every treatment. While we may use these images to showcase results, rest assured that your identity will never be revealed. If you prefer that your photos not be used for marketing, please let us know before or during your treatment.

  • No, as stated in our T&Cs, all deposits are non-refundable under any circumstances. However, you can reschedule your appointment up to 48 hours in advance.

  • If you miss your appointment without providing any notice, the full cost of the treatment will be charged before you’re able to book another session. To help you stay informed, we’ll send a confirmation email when you book, followed by reminders and a treatment safety form 48 hours before your appointment.

Appointments cancelled or rescheduled on the same day will incur a charge of 50% of the treatment cost, or £30—whichever is greater. This policy applies to all treatments, including smaller areas, and helps us cover the time and resources allocated to your session.

Please inform us at least 48 hours in advance if you start any new medications or experience skin conditions (such as sunburn, breakouts, or cold sores) that might impact your suitability for treatment. If we’re only made aware on the day of your appointment and treatment cannot proceed safely, the same-day cancellation policy will still apply.

These policies are designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and the continued quality of our services. We truly value your support as a client of our independent clinic. If you have any questions or need assistance with your booking, we’re here to help.
